Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of education and economic growth in North Sumatra from 2004 to 2018 and to identify the effect of education on economic growth in North Sumatra. The research method used by researchers is descriptive quantitative. The results of this study indicate that economic growth in North Sumatra during the study period experienced growth despite its fluctuating growth, where the highest growth occurred in 2018. Various theories have shown the importance of education in driving economic growth. This paper proves that empirically proxied education with literacy rates significantly influences economic growth proxied by gross regional domestic product.
