Abstract
This article focuses on investigating the personal characteristics of chemically dependent individuals with different levels of drug anosognosia. Our study revealed that the severity of anosognosia is directly linked to the personal traits of chemically dependent individuals. Moreover, narcotic anosognosia serves as a psychological defence mechanism and a coping strategy for dealing with addiction. The identified aspects of the internal perception of dependence on psychoactive substances can serve as differential diagnostic criteria when determining the appropriate psycho-correctional approaches for chemically dependent individuals.
