Abstract

This research paper examines the sociolinguistic profiles of students in a Business English course at “International School of Finance Technology and Science” (ISFT) institute in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. It analyzes social factors like ethnicity, gender dynamics, socioeconomic status, and the linguistic context of English usage. The diverse student population, made up of young adults of Uzbek descent, provides a unique opportunity to explore how these sociolinguistic variables affect language learning. The study's goal is to discover language acquisition problems and opportunities in Business English education by categorizing students into subgroups based on these variables. The paper also discusses pedagogical and assessment implications based on these sociolinguistic profiles, with a focus on improving students' language proficiency and adaptability in local and global settings. Additionally, drawing on insights from sociolinguistics, education, and language acquisition theories, this study contributes to the ongoing discussion on language education by highlighting the importance of considering social factors in effective pedagogical practices. Ultimately, the research aims to create inclusive and fair learning environments that empower students to navigate diverse sociocultural landscapes and succeed in an interconnected world.
