Abstract
The production of CO2, a major contributor to global emissions, is significantly caused by human activities, with transportation accounting for approximately 25% of worldwide emissions. Fostering pro-environmental behaviors (PEB) is vital for achieving emission reduction. Individual decision-making to adopt PEBs is complex, influenced by personal characteristics, situational factors, and externally sourced information. This position paper introduces a conceptual framework for a multi-layered agent-based Digital Twin (DT) designed to facilitate experimentation with various scenarios and intervention approaches promoting PEB among residents in rural regions. As a use case, we outline how to apply the DT to a specific rural area in Germany.
