Abstract

Self-regulated learning is defined as the degree to which students are metacognitive, motivationally, and behaviorally active participants in their learning. Learning can be influenced and improved to achieve successful academic results. This article reviews the literature to analyze and compare learning self-regulation strategies to recommend learning objects in the context of a Virtual Learning Environment. The results serve to map the state of the art, main approaches, and characterizations of the topic of recommendation systems that use self-regulated learning strategies to support students’ academic performance; and to identify promising opportunities for future research on the topic.
