Abstract
An approach that combines hardware processing facilities with artificial intelligence and computer vision is proposed in this paper resulting in a prototype for assisting blind people at indoor and outdoor exploration in terms of object detection and recognition, color recognition, obstacle avoidance and smart navigation. Several test scenarios have been experimented and prove the efficiency of the proposed approach. The targeted test scenarios comprise shopping assistance, obstacle avoidance and directions for safe navigation.
