Abstract

In basketball, players must be able to make good decisions in complex and rapidly changing situations. An important element of situational judgment is visual search motion. We propose to quantify the visual search motion of a basketball player during play. In the proposed method, the experience of playing basketball is realized on a VR simulation. The player wears a head-mounted display to experience the playing situation. We prepared scenarios that considered the characteristics of the basketball game and the characteristics of the head-mounted display and measured the visual search motion on the prototype system. Experiments were conducted on defensive players, and the results show that the measurement results of visual search motion are useful for discussing the characteristics of players.
