Abstract

This paper addresses the challenges in optimizing PLC-based industrial control systems at Demcon to meet IIoT standards. Through a collaboration with the University of Groningen (NL), we redesigned the architecture using MQTT and Sparkplug B to enable scalable, real-time communication and introduced a Unified Namespace (UNS) for seamless data exchange. The results demonstrate improved flexibility, scalability, and latency reduction, validating the approach in an industrial environment and highlighting its broader potential for IIoT adoption.
